How to enable CUDA for Freemake Video Converter for drivers after 337.88

For NVidia drivers after 337.88 CUDA option is unavailable:



1. Download 337.88 WHQL driver from NVidia website
2. Extract it to some folder with 7z
3. In Display.Driver folder extract nvcuvenc32.dl_ with 7z to nvcuvenc32.dll and rename it to nvcuvenc.dll
4. Copy nvcuvenc.dll to the  Freemake installation folder

The end result:


Note: NVidia drivers 347.09@GTX970, Freemake VC 4.1.5

    Just tried with Freemake VC 4.1.6.1 and 347.88 - still works for me. Did you put nvcuvenc32.dll in C:\Program Files (x86)\Freemake\Freemake Video Converter folder?

    accurate steps:

    after downloading driver 337.88...

    1) find nvcuvenc32.dl_ or 64, depending on target sw
    (if freemaker, that's 32 bit so use the 32 file)
    2) extract dl_ file from step 1 into temp_dir
    3) cmd as admin, cd temp_dir
    4) run this command:
    expand nvcuvenc32/64.dl_ to nvcuvenc.dll
    (new file created nvcuvenc.dll, bigger than original .dl_)
    5) place nvcuvenc.dll into target app (in my case freemaker video converter under c:\program files x86\freemaker\fvc\)

      It took me a few tries to get the command right, but it eventually worked. Be sure to use the -r command after expand like so:

      expand -r nvcuvenc32.dl_ nvcuvenc.dll

      It will expand the dll properly, though you may get an error after saying "Can't open input file: nvcuvenc.dll." but you can safely ignore that. Copy the newly expanded "nvcuvenc.dll" to C:\Program Files (x86)\Freemake\Freemake Video Converter and you're good to go.

      BTW, I'm running Win 10 Pro 64-bit and CUDA is now enabled once more in Freemake.

    hi Andon,
    no offence intended... :)

    I tried your steps and they did not work for me (windows 10 64bit, evga gtx 550 ti) - so it did not enable the option in Freemaker to use cuda.
    Not sure if it has something to do with the fact that dll was not expanded in your steps.
    Also the location in my steps is exact and works. Placing the dll (expanded or, in your case, just renamed) 1 level up, under c:\program files x86\freemaker, will not work.
    So it has to be under fvcl directory.

    BTW, I forgot to mention, a restart was required in my case.

      None taken :) I was just curious. I've just tested with FVC 4.1.9 and it still works for me and no restart was required. Your steps are just more detailed ;) By installation folder I've meant where application is installed not where setup file is. I'm glad it still helped you somewhat.

      actually it really helped me a lot so many thanks for posting it.

      because it gave me hope that it's possible and also I combined your steps with other steps talking about dll expansion, found on internet (although they were for different video editor/tool).

    @Vanessa Rojas - the video was very helpful and Freemake 3.2.1 (I use that version as later ones were downgraded for video editing) is now enabled for GeForce GTX 1050. Thank you very much indeed!

    It worked thanks, but do not want to download whole drivers. Just download this dll file from this link and put in to the freemake folder and remove "32" from it's name. That's it. Enjoy!!! https://www.dllme.com/dll/files/nvcuvenc32_dll.html
